We had a visit from two of Coulson’s pilots to the Brigade last year and they gave us a real insight into the difficulties of flying the 737 in turbulent air above a fireground and needing to slow the aircraft to 10knots over stall speed in order to minimise the spread and maximise the impact of the drop.
The great advantage of the helicopter is an ability to fly as slowly as required to meet the drop requirements.
But the 737 will get there quicker …
