In mid 2025 your Brigade started to encourage the formation of Neighbourhood Groups of typically 10 – 15 families for the purpose of helping each other and more effectively working with the Brigade to make our environment safer.

The reality is we live in a fire prone area and we know that we will have to confront a major fire every few years as we did in 2013 and 2019. Climate change has the potential to increase fire intensity and we have seen a doubling of wild fires globally in the last two decades.

Our program is well under way and we have a number of established groups across the Heights and along Hermitage Road and the Islands.

We expect to see a number of benefits:

• Better prepared properties more resilient to fire
• Better prepared families with properly thought out fire plans
• Better communication between the Brigade and the Community
