The brigade has distributed flyers to most of the houses on the Heights announcing the commencement of our Neighbourhood Groups Program.

If you haven’t received yours please download it here.

We’re holding a Coordinators meeting at the fire shed next Saturday 19th July at 10.00 a.m..

We need people to volunteer to be Coordinators and their Deputies, so if you are thinking of putting your hand up maybe discuss it with another close neighbour and both come along to the meeting.

The meeting will give you an overview of the program and a chance to ask all your questions. It’s really the start of a journey together which we hope will bring the community close to the Brigade to the benefit of all of us.

If we can all make the program a success, we’re expecting to achieve a lot of benefits:

  • We’ll know those properties where people plan to stay and defend. Saving lives is our number one priority
  • Our properties will be better prepared, not only against a direct attack by a bushfire, but also against fire spreading house to house
  • We need water to protect our properties. Accurately mapping Static Water Supplies will be a huge help
  • Members of our community who are old and infirm can get help, both from their neighbours, but also by organising external services to deliver support
  • Our animals are more likely to be looked after
  • Our people will have better emotional support. Gospers Mountain placed a lot of stress on all members of our community and this is an area where our groups can really help each other

We have an incredible record at Kurrajong Heights and the Brigade has never lost a house on the mountain since it was formed more than 70 years ago. Its getting harder to maintain this record and we need to work together more effectively if we all want to enjoy living in this wonderful place safely.

If you and your pals can join us on the 19th please email Jeremy & Julie Braithwaite at kh.rfs.community@gmail.com or call Jeremy on 0416 222 112 or Julie on 0405 354 576.
